Holleman's happy to be a Mustang

SMU picked up commitment No. 19 yesterday evening when 6-foot-3 WR Arrius Holleman chose the Mustangs. The addition of Holleman will give SMU a tall target on the outside who has the strength to overpower cornerbacks and the speed to stretch the field. Read further to find out why Holleman made his decision.

SMU departed from Lubbock yesterday with a commitment from Lubbock Monterey WR Arrius Holleman, who held offers from Houston, Rice, UTEP, and hometown school Texas Tech. What persuaded Holleman to go with the Mustangs over the other suitors?

"I like SMU a lot," Holleman said. "Coach (Adrian) Klemm recruited me and they have great academics at SMU, as well as a great football program. I picked SMU over Texas Tech because of the academic program at SMU and the small classroom size.

"I was there at the SMU/Texas Tech game yesterday and it was a really good game. The intensity was good. They just got beat in the end."

Holleman and Lubbock Monterey are 0-2 on the early season, with a road test at undefeated Wolfforth Frenship (2-0) on deck this week.

"We can't seem to win to save our lives," said Holleman in frustration. "I'm on my way to practice right now. It's gone good for me statwise (5 catches, 123 yards) so far, but we want to win."

In 2009, Holleman (6-foot-3, 185, 4.6) hauled in 34 receptions for 557 yards with seven touchdowns for the Plainsmen.

Monterey graduated a whopping 65 seniors from last year's team.
