"I'll know on Sunday if I'm going to commit to SMU. I'm going to watch the SMU/Texas Tech game and I expect SMU to win. I want to see them move the ball on offense and also check out how they run their offense.
"If I don't decide to commit Sunday, then I'm going to wait until later during the season to make my decision."
What did the coaches at Arkansas and Arkansas State have to say?
"Coach (Willy) Robinson from Arkansas wants to get me up there for an official visit," Sams said. "Coach (Maurice) Harris from Arkansas State was the first one to call me on September 1. He called at 6:00 A.M.
"Both of those coaches were excited to talk to me and they're looking forward to hopefully meeting me in person."
Turning to tonight's game, Sams was all business.
"We want revenge on Karr (Algiers, La.) after losing a close one to them last year," he said. "They look good on film - big and fast. We'll need to stop the run, but they also pass a good bit. Their new quarterback looked good in the tape of their jamboree game against Higgins.
"They have two good corners, but one of them is only 5-foot-6. Our coaches are excited about the chances of getting me matched up against him. They have a linebacker, Matt Bailey, who hits well. He's listed as a safety prospect, but he's more of an outside linebacker for Karr."
Last week, Sams came through in the clutch in a jamboree game with Archbishop Rummel, returning a kickoff 95 yards for the game-winning TD versus the defending 5A state runner-up Raiders.
