Latimer to visit SMU

Latimer to visit SMU

SMU is seeking a tall, physical wide receiver that can stretch the field in the Mustangs' wide-open aerial attack, and in pursuit of that goal, offensive line coach Adrian Klemm (pictured) is recruiting 6-foot-3, 205-pound Cody Latimer of Jefferson Township HS in Dayton, Ohio. Find out when Latimer plans to visit and why SMU may have an advantage on other programs.

"I have no idea how SMU heard of me and started recruiting me," said Latimer, who caught 45 passes for 911 yards with eight TDs in 2009, "but it sounds great. My interest in SMU is high.

"I don't have any favorites yet, but I'm planning on taking an official visit to SMU on September 24th. I heard that there's a big game (TCU) going on that weekend."

Most prospects look for a college that's close to home, but Latimer takes the opposite approach.

"I'm looking for a nice environment with good academics, good football, and somewhere that's a nice distance away from home - not too close."

Last night, the Broncos lost the first game of year to Clark Montessori (21-12), but Latimer had a successful outing.

"I had both of our TDs," he said. "On one of them, I ran it in when I was playing Wildcat and on the other, I caught a slant pass."

As a junior, Latimer led his team in tackles, ringing up 94 stops (65 solo). He also picked off a pass (and returned it 53 yards), forced a fumble, and recovered two fumbles.

On offense, he was the number one receiver and also averaged more than 10 yards per carry (24-260).

Among the schools vying for Latimer's services are Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Akron, and Indiana.
