Cartel Murray of Thibodaux is one of the best corners in Louisiana and he's on track to get his first scholarship offer very soon. Murray has a full schedule of camps on the agenda for this summer and he hopes to land an SMU offer.

Thibodaux cornerback Cartel Murray understands the recruiting game and while he's ready to get that first scholarship offer, Murray is confident that it won't take long for that to happen.

"I'm getting ready to go to ULM Camp tomorrow," Murray told PonyStampede.com. "Coach Applewhite from ULM told me that they're going to offer me if I go to the camp. They want to work me one-on-one. It's a combine and a camp. There's even going to be some 7-on-7 there. I'm going to Louisiana Tech's camp on Wednesday and they're telling me the same thing - that they'll offer me at the camp. Next Sunday, I'm going to camp at Southern Mississippi and they say that they're going to sign four DBs and that I'll get an offer if I go to the camp and perform well."

Murray is one of the most skilled seniors in Louisiana without an offer yet, but that doesn't bother him.

"You just have to be patient," he said. "I know that many college coaches only make 'camp offers' and so I'm not frustrated. I'm also going to Tulane camp and I want to make SMU's camp. I like SMU and I'm really looking forward to their camp. Coach Reinebold told me that they're holding a scholarship for a player who comes to their camp and shows that he can play more than one position.

"I'm also competing, along with Stevie Douglas and Ryan Byrd, in the Badger 7-on-7 national tournament in early July. We placed highly in the southeast region and qualified for nationals, where we'll play teams from around the country."

Murray suits up for Thibodaux High School, which is one of the top 5A programs in Louisiana. Last year, the Tigers produced five-star WR Trovon Reed and Murray has a four-star teammate in OL Greg Robinson. The Tigers capped off spring training earlier this month with a scrimmage vs. crosstown foe E.D. White.

"I had five tackles and a fumble recovery in the scrimmage," said Murray. "I didn't get a chance to show all that I can do (in pass coverage) because they're a triple option team. E.D. White's fullback, Dylan Ledet, is a good player. He ran well. And their quarterback (Grant Chiasson) has a good build. He's more of a runner than a thrower."
