Two Offers For Rushing

James Rushing of Houston Memorial has excellent size and speed and he recently picked up his first two offers. Several more schools - including SMU - might be ready to pull the trigger soon. Read on to find out more.

James Rushing (Houston Memorial HS) has received two offers and the 6-foot-4, 235-pound defensive end might add an SMU offer to the list soon.

"I've been offered by Harvard and Air Force," said Rushing. "SMU seems pretty interested. They want to see me in camp and decide on whether I should play defensive end or linebacker. I'm going to make two SMU camps this summer - one as a defensive end and one as a linebacker.

"I'm open to everything right now. I don't have a favorite. I'd say that I have even interest in every school. I'm going to see who all offers me. Houston wants to see me in their camp as well. They're recruiting me as a three-tech. Northwestern - same deal - they want to see me in person. Georgia Tech wants to see me front of their defensive coordinator, and Texas Tech is recruiting me as an outside linebacker."

What position would Rushing like to play in college?

"I'm flexible," he said. "I've played four spots on defense in high school and also some tight end and receiver on offense. I just want to go somewhere where I can play. I've improved my speed. I ran a 4.60 and a 4.65 (down from a 4.78) recently.

"We finished spring training last Thursday and now we're doing 7-on-7. We start running on Sunday. I'm going to have to eat a lot, so I can keep my weight up while I'm doing all this running over the summer. I'm at 235 right now and I'd like to stay at 235-to-240."

Rushing said that he performed well at Memorial's intrasquad scrimmage.

"We did really well this spring," he said. "There were five or six schools out there every day looking at us. I made a couple of plays in the scrimmage. I had three sacks and a six-yard tackle for loss -- and about six-to-eight more tackles too."
