Just ten days away?

PonyStampede.com has hinted that Skyline DE Marquel Bryant could be getting close to committing to the Mustangs. On Sunday afternoon, the junior indicated he is even getting closer. Come inside for the details.

In previous stories and forum posts, PonyStampede.com has hinted that Skyline DE Marquel Bryant could be getting close to committing to the Mustangs. On Sunday afternoon, the junior indicated he is even getting closer.

"I'm thinking about committing after the spring game," said Bryant. "Really everybody I know has been saying SMU is the place to be right now. Plus, I'm excited that Coach Jones is there."

Bryant's spring game is May 26, so Mustang fans could be just less than ten days away from hearing of another commitment in the 2011 recruiting class.

Bryant is described as a long, relentless pass rusher, with a very good first step. At 6'3, 212 pounds, the junior runs a 4.61 forty.

"Once he gets into a college weight program, with his body, a diet, and some supplements his body will fill out," said Skyline recruiting coach R.J. Bond in a previous Scout.com article. "I think Bryant is the type of kid that would have some strong interest in SMU. They went to a bowl game and they are right here in the city. June Jones comes with a name and a NFL background. He has a winning tradition behind him. He is not just a coach. I think that has sparked interest."

Over halfway into spring practices, things are going well for the junior. Skyline has a tradition of not rebuilding, but retooling. Bryant has been crucial this spring in the growth of the younger players.

"I'm a defensive captain this year, so I've been helping the upcoming d-line and o-line players to succeed at their positions," said the defensive end. "Spring practices have been great. I've been working on my technique at end, my speed, and get-off. I'm also learning the playbook inside out, because I'll actually be playing on the whole defensive this season. I'm playing the 3-tech, the 1-tech, and at end."

SMU defensive coordinator Tom Mason watched Bryant practice last week. Besides for the Mustangs, K-State, New Mexico, Texas Tech, and Colorado State have visited.
