SMU fans have known it was going to happen for a while now, but everyone can sleep easier, knowing Darryl Fields has officially sent in his letter of intent to the Mustangs. Fields, who was recently rated the No.1 running back in the state of Oklahoma by Scout.com, talked with PonyStampede.com about the process coming to an end.
"I'm happy that its finally coming to an end. It's been a long long process for me. To finally make it official is going to be nice and a relief," said the new signee. "I made the right decision. It's one that is going to affect the rest of my life."
At 6'2, 205 pounds, Fields is expected to make an immediate impact on the field because of the departure of Shawnbrey McNeal. This year, the senior ran for 1495 yards and 30 touchdowns for Madill HS in Oklahoma.
Last weekend, Fields took his official visit to SMU, to solidify he was making the correct choice.
"I had a lot of fun hanging out with some of the players and other recruits. I had seen the field before, but to see it again felt really good. Plus, I was able to see really how the coaches really treat their players. It's going to be fun. The atmosphere and the enviorment are perfect for me."
