DALLAS (SMU) - SMU senior wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders has been named an Honorable Mention All-American by SI.com, the news outlet announced today. Sanders, who was previously named a first-team All-Conference USA performer, ranks as SMU's all-time leader in career catches (278), TD catches (33) and yards (3,667), single-season (85) and single-game (18) receptions and single-season yardage (1,215).
Sanders also leads all active NCAA players in career touchdown catches and yardage, and is fifth in catches among current FBS student-athletes. He holds SMU records for career 100-yard-receiving games with 15 and season 100-yard games with six (2008). He is the first player in SMU history to record four 600-yard receiving seasons - no other receiver has three.
Sanders earned C-USA Offensive Player of the Week honors after a huge game at Washington State that saw him pull down a school- and then-conference-record 18 catches for a career-high 178 yards.
Sanders also started returning punts in 2009. In the season opener, he returned a punt 79 yards for a touchdown against SFA, the first for SMU since 2003. He ranks fifth in the nation in punt return average in 2009 at 15.44 yards per return and was a first-team All-C-USA at punt returner as well.
