Brandon Thornton Profile
"I'm really excited. It's very new to me, but I'm so glad I did it. I didn't want to pass up an opportunity like this," stated Thornton (6'3, 205) to PonyStampede.com. "They have a great academic program and they play in a really good conference. The football program is pretty solid and on the rise."
So what was the SMU coaching staff's reaction to Thornton committing to the Mustangs?
"Coach Odum was congratulating me a lot and was really excited about me verbally committing to them. He was asking me some questions and congratulated me."
Thornton will join very talented teammate Chris Parks on the Hilltop, an opportunity that the good friends had not really thought about.
"I didn't know that I would have a chance to play with him particularly, but I thought it would be cool to play with someone that has been a teammate," said the linebacker. "Getting recruiting out of the way should help my training out a lot. During the season I won't have to stress about making a decision or anything. I will be able to just focus on playing the game. The biggest thing that I'm going to be working on is speed."
Thornton will take official visits in the fall, but is still unsure where he is planning on attending. He will use the opportunities for schools that might jump in to his recruiting late. Stay tuned to PonyStampede.com and Scout.com for the very latest on SMU's recruiting.
