Lipscomb Hits Practice Field

Rated as Scout.com's 54th running back in the 2010 recruiting class, Saginaw Boswell's Dante Lipscomb has had a busy spring. After making a run to the regional finals in track, Lipscomb is now back into full football mode and it hasn't taken long for schools to hear that the junior is back at practice. Has SMU came by to watch him practice? PonyStampede.com has the answers inside.

"There have been a lot of schools so far that have come by. Arizona, Oklahoma State, Air Force came by and offered me, Army, SMU, TCU, Tulsa, UTEP, Stanford, a lot of schools have come by. I don't remember them all," said the 2010 prospect. "I feel like Stanford is probably pretty close to offering me, but it's only spring, so I'm hoping to get some more looks."

Last season, with Boswell playing a pass first attack, Lipscomb only ran for 510 yards with limited touches, but that isn't turning schools off from the talented back.

"At my school, we run a lot of the spread offense. I catch a lot of balls out of the backfield and can go into motion and play wide receiver. I think SMU does a lot of the same thing with their running backs, so it seems like a good fit," stated the running back to PonyStampede.com. "Coach Reinebold was telling me it could workout perfect."

At 5-11, 175 pounds, Lipscomb has said spring practices have gone really well. His fastest hand clocked forty-time is a 4.44, and he is working hard on getting that lower.

What he is looking for in a school?

"I wouldn't say proximity to home, but mainly I'm looking for a great school academically. It has to be a good school, otherwise I'm not interested," said Lipscomb. "I don't want to rush into it. I don't want to be the guy that commits, decommits, and commits again. I will talk with my family and coaches, weigh my options, and wait for the best fit for me."

So much how does he know about SMU?

"I didn't know much until I talked with their coach, but he was telling me a lot about the offense and the schemes they run. I don't know much about the campus yet or about the school, but I know about the offense they run."

Lipscomb is planning on hitting the summer camp circuit and will be attending SMU's camp. He also has plans to attend Utep's and OSU's.

With official offers from Air Force and Montana State, Lipscomb could be on the verge of seeing his recruiting heat up.

"The (Scout.com) rating is nice and everything, but I don't think it really tells what type of player that I am. My sophomore season I did really well, but last year I didn't have the greatest season. To be ranked that high still says something, but I know that if I play like I can my senior year that ranking will go up. I think that I can be higher."

PonyStampede.com will have more on Dante Lipscomb as the summer progresses.
