Ben Hughes has been in love with SMU for sometime now.
This weekend’s official visit just confirmed for the talented offensive lineman what he already knew, “SMU is the only place for me.”
Hughes spent the weekend getting to know his future coaches a lot better, getting time to visit with them one on one.
“The big part of the weekend was getting to know the coaching staff much better,” Hughes said. “I already felt close to two or three of them, I feel close to every one of them now.”
Hughes also got a chance to see how it is to spend time with his future teammates.
“It was great,” Hughes said. “I hung out with Braden Smith and Blake McJunkin all weekend. We went to a movie on Friday night and went to a rodeo on Saturday night, it was great.”
Did Hughes learn something new about his future school?
“I learn something new about SMU every time I go up there,” Hughes said. “I’m really happy about my decision. I’m excited about being a part of something special that June Jones is building at SMU, I want to be a part of that.”
What’s Hughes goal for his future team?
“This recruiting class, we all want to make this a team to remember for a long time to come,” Hughes said. “We all believe in what Coach Jones is telling us, this is going to be a special team.”
Has Hughes received any late attention from other schools?
“I have told any school that has expressed interest, thanks but no thanks,” Hughes said. “There is nothing that can change my mind about going to SMU, no one and not any team, I’m a Mustang.”
