After weeks of speculation, Dallas Lincoln product Kevion Gamble made his pledge to Southern Methodist University official.
Gamble called PonyStampede.com Sunday afternoon to explain that he had decided to go public with his commitment to Mustangs.
"I loved it at SMU," Gamble said. "I have a lot of options, it just felt right with the SMU coaches."
June Jones and defensive coordinator Tom Mason made a home visit recently to the Gamble residence.
"They really made me feel important to their program," Gamble said. "They told me that I was one of the top five corners in the state of Texas and that I was very important to their future success."
Gamble had previously been committed to Tulsa for several months, before Jones and coaching staff made a major push for the talented defender.
"I did my homework on the all the coaches," Gamble said. "I really get a long great with my position coach Derrick Odom. That's important for me to have a great relationship with him."
Gamble feels like staying home and making a major difference in his home town is very important.
"SMU is a program on the rise," Gamble said. "I want to be one of the reasons we go to a bowl in the next year or so. I want to be one of the reasons for the turn around."
