Rumors swirled around the Hilltop Friday afternoon almost as must as the high winds in the area did.
It was reported by one site that Petty had received an official offer from offensive guru June Jones and the SMU Mustangs.
While it appears that there is some interest in Petty, he has yet to receive an offer. Another rumor had him on the SMU campus Friday; PonyStampede.com cleared the air Sunday night with the talented signal caller.
"No right now I don't have an offer from SMU," Petty said. "They appear close to offering one; Coach Jones has to approve all quarterback offers. He was out of town this past weekend."
That appears to be one of the major reasons Petty didn't take an official visit to the Hilltop.
"We talked about me taking one last weekend, but since Coach Jones wasn't going to be there, that didn't happen," Petty said. "Right now I plan on trying to take a visit there, if not an official one at least an unofficial one since it's just up the road from my house."
Petty received shocking news last week when new Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin decided that the Texas signal caller wasn't what he was looking for the Volunteer's new offense.
"I was definitely shocked," Petty said. "I figured it would a go for me when they hired Kiffin, I thought it was a great fit for me. I really fell in love with Tennessee and the old coaching staff, things happens but I didn't expect this to happen."
Does Petty have interest in SMU?
"I like the offensive system of June Jones," Petty said. "SMU is the place to be for a throwing quarterback. I really have a lot of interest, they are probably third or forth on my list out of the schools that I'm currently looking at."
Petty missed three games this year for his Midlothian High School team due to injury, resulting in lower than usual stats.,/p>
"I missed the second game of the season due to a concussion," Petty said. "I missed the last two games of the season after tearing my MCL in the seventh game of the season."
