SMU was the first school to offer junior college defensive back Conroy Black, that offer and the relationship he has built with secondary coach Derrick Odum earned the Mustangs an official visit from the talented athlete this weekend.

Black, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback who runs a 4.3 forty, is committed to Oregon State. The question is how committed is he to the Beavers.

"I would say I'm a soft verbal," Black told PonyStampede.com Thursday night. "SMU was the first school to offer me; I owe it to them to at least take a look at what they have to offer in Texas."

Brown has never been to Dallas or Texas and is looking forward to his trip this weekend.

"I'm from Florida so it would be close to home," Brown said. "That's not a big factor for me, but something to think about. I want to check out Dallas and see what Texas is all about."

According to Brown, SMU is pushing the fact that he could start for the Mustangs tomorrow.

"They want me really bad," Brown said. "They said I would be the starter day one, it's something to think about. Oregon State is basically telling me the same thing. I will know more about SMU after this weekend."

Brown decided to take the official visit after receiving a visit from Odum earlier this week.

"It was great to see him," Brown said. "He is a really cool coach, easy to talk to. I decided to take the trip and get the chance to meet the rest of their coaches and players."
