Is SMU still leading for Wayne Frazier's services. It was reported that Frazier didn't have SMU as his favorite anymore, has the Mustangs ever been his favorite? His high school coach explains the mix-up and states that he would be shocked if the talented offensive lineman doesn't end up at SMU. Go inside for the latest on his recruitment in this free read.

When you grow up in the state of Texas most young boys dream of playing for one of two schools, the University of Texas or perhaps Texas A&M.

With football as important as it is in the Lone Star State it’s a good thing that there are schools that specialize in academics while still providing Division 1 football such as Southern Methodist University.

One current SMU commitment has always been a big UT fan, but according to high school coach there is one school that is still on top for Refugio’s Wayne Frazier.

“There is no doubt in my mind that he is going to SMU,” said Refugio head coach Jason Herring. “I think he was taken out of context when it was reported that SMU wasn’t his favorite, yeah he grew up liking Texas but he doesn’t have an offer from them.”

Herring described Frazier as a coach’s dream.

“He is such a big, strong and talented athlete,” Herring said. “He runs a 5.2 forty, which isn’t bad for a man his size. He has tremendous feet, he plays basketball, runs track, and he is a talented athlete.”

According to Herring he advised the young man that hasn’t been out of small town Texas very often to take advantage of all five of his official visits.

“He hasn’t been to a lot of places in his life,” Herring said. “I told him to take all of his visits and enjoy the process; this was only going to happen once in his life. He needs to enjoy the attention every one is paying him right now.”

Herring feels that once Frazier goes to college that the talented offensive lineman has a lot of upside.

“The sky is the limit for this young man,” Herring said. “Once he gets into a weight program and just focuses on football, he is going to explode.”

According to Herring, Frazier has taken official visits to Texas Tech, UTEP, Arizona and Colorado, with one left for SMU.

“I know he talked to me the other day and told me how high he is on SMU, that’s all he talks about,” Herring said. “One of the big schools he went to on his official visit he didn’t like all that much.”

Herring believes that Frazier and SMU is a great fit for each other.

“Coach (June) Jones is a great coach and Wayne will do well there at SMU,” Herring said. “I know Jones spoke to him personally the other day, he really likes the SMU coaches. I would be shocked if he doesn’t go to SMU.”
