Southlake Carroll’s quarterback Kyle Padron surprised a lot of people last week when he accepted Southern Methodist University official offer to be one of the Mustang quarterbacks of the future.

It appears that June Jones and staff only offered one signal caller, and got their man when Padron accepted last Friday while on an unofficial visit.

“Yes sir I’m going to SMU,” Padron told PonyStampede.com Saturday afternoon. “I was shocked when they offered me, it happened about two weeks after their camp. It was a nice surprise; it was definitely a compliment for me to get an offer from June Jones.”

Padron is very happy he attended the one day senior camp in June.

“They liked what they saw,” Padron said. “I had a great camp. I only had one incompletion; I was like 15 out of 16 for the day.”

Padron has always liked the campus at SMU, he really liked the new coaching staff after getting some time to spend with them one on one.

“They are a great bunch of coaches,” Padron said. “SMU is the best fit for me and my family. Coaches are unbelievable. It’s also neat that I was the only quarterback they offered this year.”

According to Padron he has grown a little over the summer.

“Right now I’m 6-foot-4, 205-pounds,” Padron said. “I’m working on getting bigger and stronger.”

Padron is looking forward to proving himself on the football field this fall. He was the back up for Riley Dodge, last year’s Class 5A offensive player of the year.

“I learned a lot from Riley,” Padron said. “I’m excited about this being my team this year; I plan on taking advantage of every opportunity. With recruiting out of the way, I can totally focus on the upcoming season this fall.”
