Standing 5’ 11”, 195 lbs, John Turner may be a little small for a division 1 receiver, but the Dallas-area native makes up for it with his speed and strength. He currently runs a 4.43 40 and recently put up 225 lbs 11 times. This junior college player from Trinity Valley Community College is trying to make the transition from junior college to division 1 as quickly as possible.

This junior college player from Trinity Valley Community College is trying to make the transition from junior college to division 1 as quickly as possible.

“Hopefully I’ll start receiving offers midway through the season, and once that happens, I want to make a quick decision and get it over with.”

Right now he has been contacted by various schools such as UNT, Kansas, University of Houston, SMU, Texas Tech and Texas Southern, but he feels as though U of H is his current favorite.

“I think right now I like U of H the best, but I also have high interest in SMU. I’ve been around there (SMU), it’s nice and I like it. They also have a great new coaching staff which raises my level of interest.”

While he is hoping to receive offers during this upcoming season, Turner also hopes to do some damage on the football field at Trinity Valley.

“I want to lead Trinity Valley to a championship and give back to the school that has been very kind to me. I want to do anything I can to help my team win.”

What are those skills which Turner does well?

“I think my run after the catch is probably my best attribute. My athleticism is also one of my best strengths and it makes up for my small size. Also, I feel like I am a very smart player in that I can read coverages very well before the play, but also read what a defensive back is going to do while I’m running my route.”

Turner would be a good junior college pick up for any school. And for SMU, it could be one more local hero.

Turner plans on majoring in communications.
