Southern Methodist University continues to pile up commitments for its 2009 recruiting class and most positions have been addressed with one exception.

Most expect SMU to sign at least one quarterback prospect for this class but so far there appears to be no official offers on the table.

Who are the top two QB targets for the Mustang coaching staff? No one knows for sure but it appears one of the two may be Kerrville Tivy's Colton Palmer.

Palmer recently attended the SMU one day junior camp and left the Hilltop very impressed.

"I loved it at SMU," Palmer told PonyStampede.com Monday afternoon. "I like the campus a lot. There was nothing about SMU I didn't like."

According to Palmer, he apparently impressed the Mustang coaching staff while he was there.

"They told me they liked the way I play the game," Palmer said. "They love how I deliver the ball even with defenders in my face."

While Palmer is still waiting for that first official offer, he feels that there is a good chance he may get one from SMU. Others schools currently showing interest include Kansas , Nebraska and Missouri.

"I have heard that I'm one of their top two favorites," Palmer said. "I have also heard they might offer two of us or just one of us. I'm hoping I get an offer from Coach (June) Jones."

Palmer, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound athlete who ran a 4.56 forty this spring, finished his junior season with well over 2,600 yards and only 10 interceptions. He earned First Team All-District honors and Honorable Mention honors for his achievements.

According to Palmer's head coach Mark Smith, the talented athlete is much more than just a signal caller.

"He is a great leader for us," Coach Smith said. " Colton is a hard nose runner and throws the ball with extreme accuracy. We threw it a lot last fall and he only had 10 interceptions."

Palmer arrived a day early for camp and got a chance to visit with Coach Jones and the Mustang coaching staff one on one.

"I got a chance to sit down and visit with him in his office," Palmer said. "He really knows a lot about football and especially from a quarterback's prospective."

Palmer plans on majoring in business. He currently has a 95 average and has already scored an 1100 on the SAT.

"SMU is definitely one of my favorite schools," Palmer said. "I'm really hoping for an offer."
