Southern Methodist University’s new Head Football Coach June Jones has put an emphasis on recruiting some of the top student athletes in neighboring state Louisiana.
Shreveport Evangel has always had a reputation of producing Division 1 talent; apparently this year is no exception.
One Evangel athlete that currently has an offer from SMU is wide receiver and defensive back Quinn Giles.
Giles, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound athlete that runs a 4.5 forty, scored four touchdowns and turned in over 600 yards in pass receptions as a junior.
Giles currently has an official offer from SMU, along with offers from Vanderbilt, Tulane, Southern Miss, TCU, ULM, Louisiana Tech, UL Lafayette, and Northwestern.
“Yes sir I have a lot of interest in SMU,” Giles told PonyStampede.com Sunday afternoon. “I plan on taking an unofficial or official visit there to check things out.”
Giles has heard several good things about the SMU campus.
“I have heard it’s a rich campus and a pretty big place,” Giles said. “I know Coach Jones is their new coach, he did great things at Hawaii.”
According to Giles he is looking for a school where he can get a quality education.
“Academics are important to me,” Giles said. “Football is great, but I want to do something special with my life afterwards.”
Giles currently has a 3.7 G.P.A. and is waiting for his test results on the SAT and ACT.
