It appears that Southern Methodist University new Head Coach June Jones is going after a lot of athletic free safety types for his 2009 recruiting class.

San Antonio Earl Warren High School athlete Joseph Bonugli confirmed with PonyStampede.com Wednesday evening that he indeed has received an official offer from the Mustangs.

"I will always have a lot of interest in SMU,' Bonugli said. "I'm looking forward to attending one of their summer camps next month. Right now I don't know a lot about the school, but looking forward to learning much more."

Bonugli, a 6-foot-0, 190-pound athlete that runs a 4.47 forty, currently has offers from SMU, Colorado State and Army.

Bonugli earned first team and MVP District honors last fall helping lead his team to a 10-2 overall record. The standout defender finished his junior campaign with over 107 tackles.

One thing that Bonugli is familiar with about SMU is its new coach.

"Coach Jones did a great job at Hawaii," Bonugli said. "He did a great job with that program, I'm sure he will do the same at SMU."

Bonugli currently has a 3.7 G.P.A. and will take the ACT next month.
