One of Houston’s fastest athletes recently picked up his first collegiate offer.
Fort Bend Hightower High School speedster Darius Johnson confirmed with PonyStampede.com that he has indeed received an official offer from Southern Methodist University.
“Yes sir SMU was my first offer,” Johnson explained. “I’m very excited about the offer and I have a lot of interest in SMU.”
In fact so much interest, the talented wide out has considered possibly making an early pledge to the Mustangs.
“I have considered going ahead and committing,” Johnson said. “It could happen in the near future. Right now I’m not exactly sure when.”
Johnson and his family attended SMU’s Junior Day last month and came away from the trip to Dallas very impressed.
“We loved it there,” Johnson said. “We have been to Texas A&M and Baylor; it’s a much nicer environment at SMU.”
Johnson also got a chance to watch the Mustang’s new offense during their spring game.
“It’s a perfect offense for my talents,” Johnson said. “Coach Reinebold is supposed to be at practice on Thursday to see me in action.”
Johnson, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound athlete that runs a 4.4 forty, finished his junior season with 695 yards and 14 touchdowns earning himself first team All-District honors. He also ran in the state track meet this past Saturday where his 400 Meter relay team won sixth place.
According to Johnson he is looking for a school that he can get a quality education from.
“My grades are very important to me,” Johnson said. “SMU has a great academic reputation.”
Johnson has already scored a 1340 on the SAT and currently has a 3.0 G.P.A.
