A new attitude has taken over on the hilltop.

New Head Football Coach June Jones appears to be close to picking his first commitment for his Class of 2009.

In fact, Tulsa Union’s Howard Scarborough confirmed with PonyStampede.com Thursday night that he is waiting on one thing before making that decision.

“I haven’t received an official offer yet from Coach Jones,” Scarborough explained. “They are telling me it’s on the way but Coach Jones was out of town this past weekend. If he offers tomorrow, I’m a SMU Mustang tomorrow.”

Scarborough, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound wide receiver that runs a 4.5 forty, visited the SMU campus this past weekend after attending a Nike combine in Dallas.

“I took an unofficial visit to SMU this past Saturday,” Scarborough said. “I met with Coach Jeff Reinebold, we really have developed a great relationship, and we really click.”

The standout athlete is excited about what the future holds.

“I love it at SMU,” Scarborough said. “There is no doubt that's where I’m going if the offer comes through. They tell me its coming, I sure hope it does. It’s a once in a lifetime.”

The Tulsa native fell in love with the SMU campus and its location.

“It’s small enough to give you that comfortable feeling,” Scarborough said. “It is located right in the middle of a big city, I love that.”

Scarborough finished his junior season with over 40 catches and over 300 yards and four touchdowns.

Scarborough feels that the Mustang’s new offense is a perfect fit for his talents.

“Coach Jones likes smaller wide outs that can do things with the ball after the catch,” Scarborough said. “I have always wanted to have a great relationship with my position coach. I already have that with Coach Reinbold.”
