FREE: McClure Recaps SMU Visit

4-star Triple A Academy SG King McClure talks about his time on campus!

SMU has targeted a group of players from the Texas Titans AAU program that they hope to build their 2015 recruiting class around.

Perhaps the most talented one of the recruits is four-star shooting guard King McClure from Triple A Academy. McClure has attended two games on the Hilltop this season -- his most recent was SMU's upset of No. 7 Cincinnati--- and has really enjoyed everything about SMU.

"It's my second time. My first time was a few weeks ago last month when SMU played Connecticut," McClure said. "It's great. The new facility is amazing and the atmosphere is ridiculous. It's a very high-level college game now. That win (over Cincinnati) was awesome."

McClure was also very complimentary of the SMU coaching staff. He said learning from a Hall of Famer like Larry Brown, who has coached some of the greatest players ever, could elevate his game to the next level.

"Coach Larry Brown texts me about weekly and Coach Ulric Maligi texts me all the time, too," McClure said. "I love Coach Brown. He is probably one of the greatest coaches of all-time, and I respect him a whole lot. It would incredible to play for him."

McClure also said he would prefer to stay close to home, but it wont make or break his decision. He said he hopes to get a chance to play college basketball in front of his family because of how supportive they have always been.

In fact, his father, Leroy, is the founder of Triple A Academy, where McClure has garnered national attention. Last season, he helped guide the Stallions to a state title and is averaging 21.4 points per game this year.

"SMU would be a pretty great situation for any player," McClure said. "They got a great coaching staff and a new arena. The atmosphere is crazy, and it's close to home, which is great because my family loves coming to watch me play."

At 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds, McClure is ranked as the No. 7 shooting guard in the Class of 2015 and holds offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Texas and more.

He is an elite scorer who is terrific at attacking the basket and finishing through contact. He has also improved a lot as a defender and has become a much more consistent outside shooter.

McClure attended the SMU vs. Cincinnati game last weekend with Texas Titans teammate Tyler Davis. He said the two talk about playing together and staying close to home frequently.

"I talk to Tyler Davis and D.J. Hogg a lot," McClure said. "We all talk about what if we came to play at SMU together. We actually talk about it quite often. I'm really close with them, and they are really talented, so it would be pretty cool to play with them at the next level."

McClure doesn't have any other visits planned yet, but says he may come back to the Hilltop for another SMU game this season. In the meantime, he is focused on getting better before AAU season starts.

"I'm just taking it slow and waiting until the summer ends," McClure said. "I'm excited for AAU. I'm working on becoming a better defender and more consistent shooter. We will see if I get any new offers. Whatever happens, happens."
