Mansfield Legacy OL Chad Pursley pulled the trigger on Friday
Pursley Recaps Official Visit
But he opened up about it after his visit, which he said he truly enjoyed.
"There is no doubt I'm solid to SMU. I really like the program and the academics," Pursley said. "I enjoyed the visit. I love the school a lot. I think it's a good fit for me because it's a smaller campus. I love it a lot."
Pursley has not heard from any other school this fall and even if he interest was shown, he said it wouldn't make a difference. Pursley is anxious to sign with the Mustangs in a few months and has developed a great relationship with the coaching staff.
On his visit, Pursley had the opportunity to have his first 1-on-1 meeting with head coach June Jones. The two mostly talked about SMU's season and Pursley's preparations for the offseason.
"My meeting with Coach Jones went well. He told me to keep working hard and not to worry too much about putting on more weight because they'll get me where I need to be," Pursley said. "I think he is a really laid back, cool guy, and I'll definitely enjoy playing for him."
Pursley also picked up some pieces of advice from his player host and SMU offensive lineman Chauncey Briggs.
"Chauncey was a really cool guy. He also told me to just keep working hard and that the coaches will get me ready play," Pursley said. "He also told me about classes and their practice schedule. I thought it all sounded good."
When SMU first landed Pursley, he weighed 235 pounds but has since put on 25 pounds and now stands at 6-foot-5, 260-pounds. Pursley hopes to keep gaining weight this offseason as well as increase his strength.
This season, Pursley helped Mansfield Legacy go 10-3 and reach the third round of the playoffs for the first time in school history. Pursley was named first team all-district and was also an honorable mention academic all-state selection.
"I put on a lot of weight throughout the season and hit the weight room hard. I definitely felt comfortable playing at a higher weight," Pursley said. "Our new offense really helped us. Unfortunately, it ended with a loss to Highland Park."
