One quarterback that recently got a visit from Colorado last week was Austin Westlake's Jordan…
Interest Picking Up For Severt
So well in fact, that the Mustangs offered early and were able to get the signal caller on campus for February's junior day on the Hilltop.
"It went really well. I got to talk with Coach Morrison for a while so that was definitely a good time and great to check everything out," Severt said.
Severt has only made SMU's junior day even though he had an invite from LSU and also has interest from Vanderbilt, Colorado, Wake Forest and Alabama. Severt had a prior commitment the day of the spring game, but definitely wants to get back to SMU.
Even with SMU at the top of his list, the other schools keeping tabs on Severt are going to find out a lot this spring during Westlake's practices.
"I've been hearing from a lot of schools that are saying they are going to come down and watch spring practice, which we just started this past Thursday and still going strong," Severt said. "I've been in contact with a lot of coaches who are going to come down and watch and we'll sort of go from there."
In terms of his interest in SMU, Severt believes he has the ability to be a big player in SMU June Jones' offense.
"I'd definitely fit in pretty well because they need a big guy back there to throw the ball around in the Run-n-Shoot and I think that definitely fits my skill set," he said. "Someone back there can sit back there and throw the ball around, but can also move around and make plays when plays break down."
Severt also has had a good relationship with quarterback coach Dan Morrison and respects him for the way he treats his players. Having a good relationship with the staff is key for Severt.
"I think he's a good guy and he's pretty straight up with his players. He seems like he's not unjust, but he's definitely fair with his players. I think we'd get along well," Severt said.
SMU has Severt's attention as well aside from football, where the university's impressive academic reputation is not lost on him. Severt holds academics as the most important thing to him, but the campus has also impressed him.
"I'd probably prefer to be in a warm climate. That (cold weather) isn't going to stop me, but I have liked pretty much every school I've been to. They're all pretty nice in their own ways, but SMU is up there with everything about the university," Severt said.
Severt's summer plans are to be determined with all of the staffs that are going to be visiting him this spring, and he will decide where to visit if more offers or some camp invitations come his way.
