Dallas Kimball linebacker Brandon Hines is very happy with his performance so far in the 2012 season…
SMU Offers Local LB
"My coach called me and told me congrats on the SMU offer," Hines said. "I was like what are you talking about? He confirmed that I got offered. It was a great feeling."
Hines was on the Hilltop for an unofficial visit on Thursday for the SMU vs. Houston game and has the opportunity to sit down and speak with Mustangs wide receiver coach Jason Phillips.
"Coach Phillips said he was really interested in me and told me that I could get the offer. He told me I'm committed to building programs and want players who are too. I said why not build a big program in my own backyard. I think could help make SMU a national contender and help bring a championship to my city."
After meeting with Phillips, Hines was blown away by SMU's thrashing of Houston and the overall game day atmosphere.
"The win was great," Hines said. "I saw that the fans are really loyal. The facilities are really nice and so is the campus. When you drive up to SMU, you realize how nice it really is. I had never see boulevarding like that before. I talked to one of the cheerleaders, and she told me this was the place to be."
The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder currently plays outside linebacker but says he could see himself as a safety or even a corner at the next level. But one thing is for sure, he has the talent and athletic ability to truly make his mark on the defensive side of the ball.
"I feel like I can come in and make a big impact on the program," Hines said. "I feel like the SMU defense needs some help, and I can provide that. I train at the highest level so I feel I can play anywhere on the field. Put me back in the secondary and I'll make plays. Put me at nose tackle. I don't care. I'm going to bring it."
Hines currently lists SMU, Baylor, and Texas A&M in his top three. The three-star prospect said the Aggies are close to offering and checked him out last week but College Station ‘may not' be the place for him.
Hines doesn't have official visits set yet but will see SMU again this weekend and is bringing along a couple of highly touted teammates.
"If you see (Prentavious) Morehead and (Teriyon) Gipson get offers, you could see three new SMU commits," he said. "I know Coach Phillips checked in on them, and we are all coming for the Memphis game. I feel all three of us can be program changers."
