JUCO PG Weighing Options
Over the summer, San Jacinto JUCO point guard Danny Lawhorn had the opportunity to perform in front of SMU head coach Larry Brown and showed enough to pick up an SMU offer soon after. "I was extremely happy when I picked up the offer especially knowing that Larry Brown was the coach," Lawhorn said. "I know they're trying to rebuild the program, and I want to be a part of that. Coach Brown saw me at the top-100 camp, and he said he thought I was one of the best players there." Although SMU is currently pursuing Isaiah Taylor at the position, Lawhorn has been keeping in close contact with assistant coach Jerrance Howard and believes he can make an immediate impact on the Hilltop. "Coach Howard said I have a chance to come in and play right away," Lawhorn said. "I know they're recruiting a point guard down in Texas so I don't know where I stand right now. But SMU will be at my school to watch me in a couple of weeks." Lawhorn currently holds offers from schools such as Georgia, Kansas State and Iona but SMU and Tennessee are sticking out the most. Lawhorn said he would like to take an official visit to both schools. The reason for SMU being up so high on his list is simple- Larry Brown. "I feel like he can teach me and mature my game," Lawhorn said. "He's coached some of the best point guards so I feel like he can help me develop on all the things I need help on." Last season, Lawhorn averaged 10 points and 11 assists per game, leading the nation in assists on the JUCO level. He said he could ‘possibly' make a decision soon and is anxious to play big-time basketball. "I'm 100 percent ready to make an impact at any school," Lawhorn said. "I feel like I can get everybody involved and help speed up the tempo."
