SMU hoops picked up a big commitment on Wednesday when 2012 center Jordan Dickerson decided to pull the trigger
Jordan Dickerson was tired of waiting.
The recruiting process took an excruciating toll both mentally and physically after months of researching and visiting schools. But on Wednesday afternoon, Dickerson decided to end it all and committed to SMU.
"Larry Brown. That's the reason he committed. Larry Brown," said Tiny Morton, who coaches Dickerson's AAU team. "Jordan said when he went down there and met with coach, he thought it would be a good situation for him. He would've been a fool not to commit there. Larry Brown is a Hall of Fame coach."
The 7-footer is a Class of 2012 signee, meaning he will join fellow big man Blaise Mbargorba this fall. The 'twin towers' will create a unique combo inside and help fill a huge void for SMU, which lacked a true post presence last season.
"Jordan is such a big dude at 7-feet tall," said Scout.com National Recruiting Analyst Evan Daniels. "He's pretty good around the basket and can just score thanks to his height. I think he can be a really good rebounder for SMU."
Last season, Dickerson averaged 10 points, eight rebounds and four blocks per game as he led IMG Academies (FL) to a 28-2 record.
"Jordan is always willing to learn and be a team player," Morton said. "I think he can have a major impact inside even as SMU moves to the Big East because he can be one of the bigger guys in the conference."
Morton explained that while Dickerson can crash the board and score, it's his play defensively that truly separates him from other big men and will allow him to make an immediate impact on the Hilltop.
"Defensively, he can contribute and help SMU as a true freshman," Morton said. "He'll definitely be able to block shots and be a good defender right away."
Dickerson also held offers from Auburn, Dayton, Fairfield, Providence and South Carolina but according to Morton, SMU is simply where he 'felt comfortable.'
