2013 Update: DE Jordan Points

Rockwall-Heath DE Jordan Points

Rockwall-Heath defensive end Jordan Points talks about his longtime fandom for SMU, his recent junior day visit to Texas A&M, other schools he's hearing from and his love for working out in the weight room...

Jordan Points has always been a SMU fan.

Growing up about 30 minutes west of campus in Rockwall, the 6-foot-4, 255-pound defensive end out of Rockwall-Heath High School said that he always cheered for the Mustangs because they were his hometown team.

"I've always liked their football program," Points said. "And now they're coming up."

Points would like to go to school fairly close to home so that his parents and grandparents can come to all of his games, which is another reason why SMU is so appealing.

"I don't want them to only come to just one game a year or something," he said.

SMU defensive coordinator Tom Mason is recruiting Points, who received an offer from the Mustangs in December. He said he hasn't really talked to Mason or any other coaches in awhile, but he will be attending Junior Day on March 24.

SMU may be Points' only offer right now, but he's been hearing from Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Baylor and Oklahoma State. All those schools have invited him to their respective junior days as well.

This past weekend, Points went to College Station with a couple of his high school teammates, including SMU prospect Jay Arnold. He came away impressed.

"My favorite coaching staff is A&M," he said. "I really felt like they can come in and change everything with the new staff and they're really excited about this year."

As far as which program he thinks will offer next, Points is getting a good vibe from the Red Raiders.

"Tech said they're going to come by [and visit] this spring," he said. "They just hired a new defensive coordinator (Art Kaufman) and he wants a chance to watch me actually play."

As far as which program he hopes will offer down the stretch, Points has his fingers crossed for the Aggies.

"I would really like an offer from A&M," he said. "I just liked it there."

When choosing a program to play for, Points said the most important factor for him is the coaching staff.

"[The coaching staff] could change, but I wanna be somewhere where I like the coaches," he said.

Additionally, Points said the second most important thing for him is the school's weight room. He's a gym rat.

"I don't care about stadiums or jerseys or that kind of stuff," he said. "I want to see what the weight room is like."

Points said his greatest strength is that he "plays with a lot of heart." He said he has matured as a player over the past year by taking advice from older Rockwall-Heath players and putting in a lot of time in the weight room.

Points also mentioned he likes the fact that SMU is a program on the rise.

"I want to come in and be able to keep the program going in the right direction and move it forward if I have the chance to play at SMU," he said.
