Ridge Discusses Dual Junior Days

Treston "Trey" Ridge (Waco La Vega HS) took in two Junior Days over the weekend, and you can get his reaction here. Which schools did he visit and what did the respective coaching staffs tell him?

Treston Ridge, the hard-hitting defensive back from Waco La Vega, visited the campuses of Texas-San Antonio and Baylor over the weekend for each of the schools' Junior Day.

"At UTSA, it was good to look around the school and see the campus," said Ridge. "It's a nice, beautiful place. I was looking forward to going and it lived up to what I hoped for...the coaches were cool, and they said my high school coach speaks well of me. I talked with Coach Kevin Brown, who is the tight ends coach. He's the recruiter assigned to my area."

Ridge doesn't have a scholarship offer yet, but he's formulating a plan to achieve that goal.

"I'm going to come to their camp and show them my hips and speed," he said.

The junior was duly impressed by head coach Larry Coker, as well as the current players' work ethic.

"Coach Coker said he's been many places and he really likes it there at UTSA," said Ridge. "He stressed that academics come first. I was also thinking about the fact that their players have practiced for a year without playing any real games. That shows their dedication."

Yesterday, Ridge visited Baylor for the Bears' Junior Day.

"We ate first and then they talked about academics," he said. "They have the best facilities that I've seen. Those were really great. The weight room is as good as I've seen.

"We met individually with our position coach, and he explained how they scheme on defense. He asked my goals for this season. He explained how they evaluate players and told me to run to the ball. He said it's the little things that sometimes lead to an offer."

Ridge flies to the football with the best of them, as evidenced by his 110 tackles in 2010. The junior concluded that he had a "really positive experience at both UTSA and Baylor."

He's planning on checking out North Texas this weekend, if his basketball schedule permits.
