SMU Commitment Update, Part III

SMU Commitment Update, Part III

It's the most exciting time of the year in the world of prep football, as schools around the country gear up for runs at their respective state championships. Find out what's going on with some of the prospects that are committed to SMU.

Think Dayton and defensive tackle Darrian Wright are on fire after an 0-3 start?

Check out the scores from the Broncos' last seven games, all wins: 54-0, 52-23, 59-0, 56-7, 42-0, 42-3, and 55-14.

This week, Dayton gets to work in the first round of the Class 4A Division II playoffs vs. 7-3 Livingston. If the Broncos advance, guess who is likely waiting in the wings the following week?

The 10-0 Brenham Cubs and SMU commit Rodney Hubert.

In 2009, Dayton was eliminated by the Cubs in a tight quarterfinal game (Brenham won, 30-24).

Fort Bend Travis, similar to Dayton, finished out the year with a bang, winning four in a row, and the Tigers -- led by three-star offensive lineman Carter Wall -- will square off with Clear Creek (6-3) this week in in the first round of the Class 5A Division II playoffs.

Clear Creek is definitely no slouch, having given undefeated Pearland a run for its money in a 35-28 loss a few weeks ago. The Travis/Clear Creek victor gets either LaPorte (8-2) or South Houston (5-5) in the second round.

WR Arrius Holleman has averaged well over 20 yards per catch this season for Lubbock Monterey, which made the playoffs despite a 2-8 record.

Last month, Holleman beat double-coverage on the final play of the game to score a 65-yard touchdown in the Plainsmen's 28-27 win over Lubbock Coronado in a District 2-5A contest.

Earlier in the game, Holleman added a 46-yard TD reception for the Plainsmen, who will take on 7-3 El Dorado (El Paso) in the opening round of the Class 5A Division I playoffs.

The Monterey/El Dorado winner advances to meet the winner of Midland (9-1) and Arlington Bowie (7-3). Midland owns a 62-17 win over Monterey back in mid-September.
